The main difference between adult and childhood forms of ADHD is suggested in the name: attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The younger the child, the less impulse controls they have, and the more hyperactive they tend to be. As we mature and our frontal lobes become more active, we learn to inhibit our childhood impulses. But for those who suffer from ADHD, the inattentiveness remains into adulthood.
So the main difference between the child and the adult, is that children tend to be hyperactive and inattentive, whereas adults tend to just be inattentive.
Most ADHD people are not diagnosed correctly. This is primarily because doctors do not conduct extensive functional lab testing to get to the real cause of the symptoms. It is just too easy for the medical profession to write a prescription drug such as Ritalin.
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder does not exist as a physically definitive diagnosis in the sense that real diseases and disorders such as cancer or heart disease. Since Attention Deficit Disorder is only a hodgepodge of symptoms, it is only a concept or an impression.
There are at least 8 categories of biochemical risk factors that should be tested.
Two of these are for toxic metals and food allergies. Some of the “toxins” or “poisons” that Integrative and Orthomolecular doctors can test for are listed below:
1. Environmental toxins, such as lead, mercury, aluminum and other toxic metals and petrochemicals.
2. Allergy causing foods, such as milk protein (casein) or wheat protein (gluten).
It is important to overcome attention deficit disorder symptoms that you eat a low carbohydrate diet. Stay away from the “junk” food. It is also important to have protein in every meal and to make sure and not skip meals.
You should have functional lab testing completed to determine what is really causing the ADHD symptoms. Here is a program you can have done in your home: HealthSolutionCenter.com
