The food ingredients noted below are unhealthful and can cause major health problems including cancer, atherosclerosis, diabetes, obesity, immune system dysfunction and other chronic diseases. Avoid them as much as possible. READ THE FOOD LABELS!!
1) Sweeteners
One of the best actions you can take to improve your health is to reduce your sugar intake and this also includes artificial sweeteners such as Aspartame (also known as NutraSweet and Equal). There have been more reports to the FDA for aspartame reactions than almost all other food additives combined. The product never should have been approved by the FDA.
Also avoid Fructose and High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) and chemical sweeteners such as Splenda (yellow packets containing sucralose), and Sweet’N Low (pink packets with a mixture of saccharin and dextrose).

Stevia is an alternative to artificial sugars. Read this posting about stevia sweetener
2) Hydrogenated, Partially Hydrogenated, and Trans Fats
The purpose of hydrogenation is to solidify an oil so that a product like margarine can resemble a real food such as butter. Manufacturers begin with the cheapest oils such as soy, corn, cottonseed or canola, and then subject the oils to hydrogen gas in a high-pressure, high-temperature reactor. These man made products are toxins to the body.
- So, instead of using margarine, buy organic butter.
- Instead of using partially hydrogenated peanut butter, buy the real stuff that has not been treated or even try organic almond butter which is better for you.
- Instead of corn or canola oil, use extra virgin olive oil and extra virgin coconut oil.
3) Sodium Nitrate
This is a preservative, coloring, and flavoring commonly added to bacon, ham, hot dogs and luncheon meats.
4) BHA and BHT
Butylated hydroxyanisole and butylated hydrozyttoluene are used to preserve foods such as found in cereals, potato chips, and vegetable oils.
5). MSG
MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) is a flavor enhancer in restaurants (especially Asian) used in salad dressings, chips, frozen entrees, soups and other foods.
6) Artificial Food colors
- Blue 1 and 2 is found in beverages, candy, baked goods and pet food.
- Red 3 is used to dye cherries, fruit cocktail, candy, and baked goods,
- Green 3 is added to candy and beverages
- Yellow 6 is added to beverages, sausage, gelatin, baked goods, and candy
7) Artificial Flavorings
They are artificial, cheap chemical mixtures that mimic natural flavors.
All of the above ingredients will have a negative effect on your overall health, so avoid them!
