This is probably one of the biggest medical research frauds in history. Dr. Scott S. Reuben, an anesthesiologist and former chief of acute pain at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, Mass., recently plead guilty to health care fraud and must pay $420,000 in restitution, federal court records show.
Dr. Reuben created a furor in the medical community last year when he was accused of making up research results in at least 21 published studies and inventing patients in certain instances.
Prosecutors say he was a proponent of “post-operative multimodal analgesia therapy,” which combined drugs other than opioids. Critics question whether the method is safe for bone-healing, and effective enough following certain types of surgeries and for chronic pain.
Reuben was considered an authority on the topic by 2001, the charge states. Prosecutors say he proposed research studies to pharmaceutical companies, accepted grant money and published articles in medical journals on phony research.
In 2005, Reuben received a $74,000 research grant from pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, agreeing to test Celebrex as a component of the multimodal therapy. He claimed to have treated 200 patients, 100 with Pfizer’s product and 100 with a placebo.
In fact, Reuben had not enrolled any patients and the results reported both to Pfizer and to the Anesthesia and Analgesia Journal and to the public were totally made up!
Enough evidence is available that shows the H1N1 Swine Flu “epidemic” was way over hyped and should be considered a real hoax . . . it was a ‘fraudulent’ pandemic! It has been a real bonanza for the pharmaceutical companies. If you haven’t received your shot yet – don’t! I have not had a flu shot in years and doubt if I ever will get another one.

Cancer of the pancreas was diagnosed in about 42,000 people in the U.S. in 2009, according to American Cancer Society estimates, and about 35,240 deaths from this chronic disease.
Drinking soda pop appears to nearly double the risk of getting pancreatic cancer, according to recent research.
Lead author Noel T. Mueller, MPH, a research associate at the Cancer Control Program at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, D.C. stated “People who drank two or more soft drinks a week had an 87% increased risk – or nearly twice the risk – of pancreatic cancer compared to individuals consuming no soft drinks”.
The research evaluated 60,524 men and women enrolled in a Singapore Chinese Health Study for up to 14 years, looking at their diet and whether they got cancer.
Chronic diseases of aging such as Alzheimer’s disease, other neurodegenerative diseases, arteriosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, and others may all be contributed to by excess copper and iron.
Their toxicities are so general in the population that they are a looming public health problem in the aging process itself. A very disturbing finding has found that in the general population those in the highest fifth of copper intake, if they are also eating a relatively high fat diet, lose cognition at over three times the normal rate!
Diet tips include lowering fat and meat intake and avoiding drinking water from copper pipes.

I believe that a healthy alkaline diet should contain a wide array of nuts and nut milks, including almond, hazel, pecan, macadamea, and pine nut, just to name a few.

(Ivanhoe Newswire) — A diet that incorporates a daily dose of pistachios may help reduce the risk of lung and other cancers.
“It is known that vitamin E provides a degree of protection against certain forms of cancer,” Ladia M. Hernandez, M.S., R.D., L.D., senior research dietitian in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, was quoted as saying. Higher intakes of gamma-tocopherol, a form of vitamin E, may reduce the risk of lung cancer.
“Pistachios are a good source of gamma-tocopherol,” said Hernandez. “Eating them increases intake of gamma-tocopherol so pistachios may help to decrease lung cancer risk.”
For those that may have missed the ‘consumers alert’ this past summer regarding Zicam cold remedies, this is a follow up since we are now in the midst of the cold/flu season.
